The Offstage Group Creates Program for a Connecticut High School Music Department
April 18-19, 2009
The Offstage Group organized a two day event for fifty band and choral students from Connecticut. Having a full-time TOG escort with the group helped to facilitate the events. Arranging performances for their ensembles included scheduling the jazz band at the legendary B.B. King’s Blues club and the choir at the NYC Waterway Terminal. Students then participated in tours of both Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall learning about the rich history of the iconic institutions. Working with a conductor from Broadway, members of the chorus attended a two hour clinic where they refined their current repertoire. Plenty of shopping in Times Square was also added to students’ agenda. Finally, a memorable cast party was scheduled prior to the group seeing Broadway’s In the Heights where 5 members of the cast shared dinner with the students, relayed exciting backstage anecdotes and gave expert personal advice.
